I Shouldn't Laugh......

Humour is sadly currently lacking down the Year 6 end of school, so we grab it while we can. We have a great policy of inclusion (which my personal values totally support) but this has manifested itself by having a junior version of One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest to cope with. We have one lad with Tourette's and the other kids have been great over the years, switching off to the 'wee swearies' that fly out involuntarily. They change almost weekly and this week it's been "SHIT!" (very forceful pronunciation and I worry that he is actually pulling muscles in his neck when he says it). I was explaining to the class about Ancient Greek clothing and that wealthier Greeks would have had their clothing dyed, particularly in bright colours such as purple. I asked the class, "What do you think they would have used to make the purple dye?" and my Tourette's sufferer's timing was amazing as he volleyed back, "SHIIITT!!" "No, that would make the dye brown, not purple. What would they use to make the dye purple?...." As the kids are so used to it (and oblivious to my attempts at humour) my 'joke' flew straight over their heads.......except for JH, who guffawed appreciatively when I caught his eye. He, in turn, shared the joke with our Tourette's sufferer (who took it in good jest and agreed that his timing was immaculate!).
